Blendon Woods Metro Park - Spring Season
Mar 11, 2021
Trails Hiked:
Overlook, Hickory Ridge and Brookside Trails.
Mileage:
Roughly 2 miles. We started at the Natural Play area then made a loop from the following trails: Overlook trail to Hickory Ridge, stopped at the nature center, and came back on the Brookside trail.
Weather and Trail conditions:
We got to to the park late afternoon and it was hot! It was in the upper 80's. Trails were nice and shaded, which made for a comfortable hike. The trails were fairly dry and well maintained.
Wildlife Seen:
Wild Turkeys! This was an unexpected find today!
...and of course squirrels!
Parking:
There is plenty of parking all over the park, which makes it so nice to be able to park by the activities you are most interested in.
Restrooms:
There is a set of restrooms not too far from the natural play area and also in the Nature Center. Both are very nice and have running water.
Gear:
A good pair of shoes is always recommended! It is also very wooded, so bring along the bug stray and make sure to always check for ticks.
Nature Center and Activities:
What a fun place for kids! There is a nature center and also a natural play area. The natural play area is one of the larger ones that we have seen in the parks. It includes a see-saw, a lot of climbing ropes, and a zip line. The zip line was the highlight for our kids! There is also plenty of shade in this area, which makes it a great place to come even when it's hot outside.
