Hike 13 of 52-Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park
Mar 11, 2021
We did it!! 13 Hikes down and completed the Columbus Metro Park winter hiking series! These kids were so excited for the reward at the end and so proud of their accomplishment. Thanks to Columbus Metro Parks for putting on a great series and showing us what all these amazing parks have to offer. There really is something for everyone at the parks.
Trails Hiked:
Our hike started at the Nature Center and we followed the Darby Greenway Trail past the Bison Prairie Pasture to the Cedar Ridge Lodge and that was our turn around point.
Mileage:
I am guessing the route was about 1.5 miles.
Weather and Trail conditions:
Today was a warmer day about mid 40s and no snow gear needed! Yay! The trail is a mix of gravel and paved paths and was muddy in spots. Overall, the trail was easy to navigate and nice and wide.
Wildlife Seen:
Bison in the pasture.
Parking:
Plenty of parking in all areas of the park.
Restrooms:
Restrooms at both nature center and Cedar Ridge Lodge.
Gear:
No special gear needed today. The trail was pretty muddy in spots, so wear shoes/boots that you don't mind getting a little dirty.
Nature Center and Activities:
The nature center here is amazing! There are so many fun things for kids to do, see and touch. We have been to this park before and is our kids favorite spot. They have a live stream in the middle of the center that is a lot of fun for the kids. This is a must see!
Final Thoughts:
Hike #13 – This was a really exciting hike for the family. It marks the end of the Columbus Metro Parks winter hiking series and the kids have earned their hiking sticks and medallions (which was huge motivation to keep going). This park is one of our favorites for the kids because of the nature center and seeing the Bison. There are also many other places in this park to explore as well.
