Hike 4 of 52 - Scioto Audubon Metro Park

Ice, rain and snow are coming...will it be cancelled...should we go...there is a 1-mile option...we can do that, right!  From Friday night to Saturday morning, we really didn't know if we were going to make it.  Everything around town was cancelling for Saturday, so we thought we would just wait and see.  Around 8:30 am Saturday morning, we decided that we would make the best of it and get our gear on and go.  Lucky, all our snow gear was ready to go, so not too much to do, but mentally prep for the weather.  When we left our house, ice was coming down, but by the time we arrived to the park, it was slowly changing over to rain.

Trails Hiked:

We started on the Boardwalk Trail, stopped for soup at the Audubon Center, then went to the observation deck, walked along the river on the Scioto Greenway Trail and back to the Boardwalk.  Finished with taking a brief trip up the water tower.

Mileage:

About 1 mile today... The soup stop was early on this trip, which made it hard to get back out on the trail!

Weather and Trail conditions:

We started the hike about 10:30 am and it was 31 degrees. On the way out, it was sprinkling and warmed up to around 34.

All the trails were very easy to navigate.  The boardwalk had some tricky spots, but the Greenway Trail was all clear.

Wildlife Seen:

Nothing seen today.

Parking:

Plenty of parking in all areas of the park.

Restrooms:

Great restrooms in the center!

Gear:

Snow and cold weather gear was a must!  However we could have used an umbrella during parts of the hike.

Nature Center and Activities:

Audubon center is a must see.  This was were the soup stop was and we could have spent so much more time here!  We loved all the hands on activities for the kids and also the small play area.

Final Thoughts:

Hike #4 – Well...really wasn't sure if this one was going to happen, but very glad that we did it!  Although the weather wasn't very nice, the park and the center made the kids day. We have our cold/snow weather gear out now for the season and everyone pretty much has their assigned outfits!  This makes it so much easier to get out the door.  We will be continuing with the Columbus Metro Park Winter hiking series next weekend at Clear Creek Metro Park and also at Inniswoods Metro Park.
