Old Mans Cave-Hocking Hills

Hike 19 of 52-Old Man's Cave

Wait...where is the Old Man in Old Man's Cave...many, many questions from the kids as we visited this area of Hocking Hills.  What happened to Old Man, where did he sleep, what did he eat, did he have shoes...and so on.  We did our best to answer the questions and can't wait for the new visitors center to open up and learn more about the area.  Another amazing area to visit with the kids!

Trails Hiked:

Old Man's Cave and Lower Falls

Old Man's Cave

Mileage:

Roughly 1 mile on this one...This is just one part of the trail system that is running through the area.  So much to see and many more miles can be done!

Weather and Trail conditions:

We got there around noon and the temp was in the mid 60's and overcast.  The trail was damp, but not muddy. The rocks and steps can be a little slick, so good footwear is a must. The trail is easy to navigate and well traveled.

Old Man's Cave

Wildlife Seen:

None seen today - but we did find this little creepy crawly!

Parking:

Large parking lot at the entrance of the park. This is a highly traveled area in the park and would recommend getting there early in the day to avoid crowds or on the weekday, if possible.

Restrooms:

Since there was renovation taking place while we were there, the restrooms available for use were port-a-potties.

Gear:

Good Hiking shoes.  The area has a lot of steps and a hiking stick/trekking pole would also be helpful.

Nature Center and Activities:

No nature center located here.
