Slate Run Metro Park-Columbus Ohio

Hike 12 of 52-Slate Run Metro Park

Wow! What a beautiful place Slate Run is!  This trail, to date, was the longest and most challenging for our family.  But well worth it!

Sorry for the shaking video... Technical Difficulties this hike!

Trails Hiked:

We started at Buzzard's Roost area, then headed down the Sugar Maple Trail, to Five Oaks Trail and stopped at the observation deck.  We looped around by the natural play area then ended up back on Sugar maple trail to finish out the loop.

Mileage:

I am guessing that we were probably around the 2.5 mile range today.

Weather and Trail conditions:

There was a light rain for most of the hike with periods of ice. The trails were damp, but everything was manageable (no flooded trails).  The trails were pretty hilly with a few steep inclines and declines.

Wildlife Seen:

Nothing seen today.

Parking:

Plenty of parking in all areas of the park.

Restrooms:

Nice set of restrooms right at Buzzard's Roost.

Gear:

We were dressed for cold and snow today! A good pair of hiking boots and hiking/walking sticks would be good too.

Nature Center and Activities:

This is a really cool park.  There are other trails that we would love to come back and explore as well as the lake.  There is no nature center here, but there is a living historical farm, which would be really cool to visit.  I definitely see us coming back here to take in more!  Maybe on a sunny day :)

Final Thoughts:

Hike #12 –  This was a great trail and would love to do more like this one. It was a good one for the kids to get used to some moderate inclines and declines.  There were definitely some parts that we had to manage through...  How long is it, how many more hills, we are hungry and thirsty and so on... Since we now know more about what this park is all about, we would pack a little differently. We were all ready for the weather, but needed a few snacks along the way.  This would have helped tremendously!   All in all, we made it through and the ending impression was just how cool of a place it was.
