Hike 10 of 52-Glacier Ridge Metro Park
Mar 11, 2021
Did you know it was supposed to snow today? Did you check the weather? Well, this was a total surprise to us and obviously, we didn't check the weather before leaving! We pretty much have our cold/snow outfits ready for the weekend and it's almost routine now to just put them on and head out the door. The snow surprise definitely was the highlight of this trip...and the hot chicken sandwich at the end!!
Trails Hiked:
Marsh Hawk Trail. This was a paved trail that was pretty flat. Great trail for families with younger kids and strollers. Also saw many runners as well!
Mileage:
The trail is 2.3 miles, but we ended up looping back through the parking lot to drop off hiking sticks. So we were around 2 miles today.
Weather and Trail conditions:
SNOW! Good thing we were dressed for it. It was just about 30 degrees and as soon as we started walking it started to snow. The kids were loving it and well so were we! It was a nice surprise and by the end we left the park, we had a good 1inch or so on the ground.
The trail was very easy to navigate and was mostly flat.
Wildlife Seen:
Saw some birds today.
Parking:
Plenty of parking in all areas of the park.
Restrooms:
Very nice set of restrooms right at the start of the trail.
Gear:
We were dressed for cold and snow today! No other special items needed.
Nature Center and Activities:
The kids were so excited when we pulled in and saw the challenge course. There is also a large wooden play structure and smaller playground as well. It was nice that all of these areas are close together, so you can really do a lot without having to drive to another area of the park. Also there is a wind and solar learning center. This would be a really cool place to come back to on a warm spring day to be able to take in all the playgrounds and activities.
Final Thoughts:
Hike #10 – This was a fun and relaxed hike, even with the added snow. The trail is very easy to navigate and would want to come back for the challenge course and playgrounds.
